Omnivore was a read-it-later app for people who like text: articles, PDFs, newsletters, labels, highlights and notes. The hosted cloud app was deprecated in November 2024.
Bring in an article, a PDF, an EPUB, a Word doc, a YouTube talk or a podcast. Each one becomes a page you can read or listen to, with sections to navigate by.
The hosted app saved your place, supported highlighting, and offered text-to-speech on iOS. That hosted product is gone. People who still run it do so on their own servers.
Read the extracted text with help beside a difficult passage. Open Learn more on a phrase you choose, ask a question while the source stays in view, or listen to a narrated version of the piece.
The codebase remains open source. If your requirement is to host the reader on your own machines, that is still Omnivore's project, or a different open-source tool such as Wallabag.
Omphalis is a hosted product. It is not open source, not a self-hosted Omnivore fork, and not Wallabag. Use it if you want reading help without operating a server.

If you want the software on machines you control, Omnivore's GitHub project is still there. Wallabag is the other common open-source read-later. Omphalis does not compete on that axis.
